WHAT ARE WE UP TO THIS FALL?

CLIMATE ACTION PLANNING:

Sustainable Milton is continuing to partner with the town to develop a Climate Action Plan (CAP).

A small group of volunteers is reviewing the state's Clean Energy and Climate Plan (CECP) for 2025 to 2050, and numerous Climate Action Plans from nearby towns to identify the concrete opportunities for Milton over the next few years.

Join us if you'd like to learn more or help out!

COMPOSTING IN OUR SCHOOLS:

Sustainable Milton is working with the town and schools to implement a pilot program for food waste diversion and recycling in two of our elementary school cafeterias.

Currently, there is no waste sorting in the school cafeterias. We can significantly reduce waste heading to the incinerator by separating out food and recyclables which will decrease carbon emissions in Milton and save the town money!

Is now the best time to get yourself a bike?

Riding a bike is an amazing way to stay in good health, but also to offset your carbon footprint. Replace car trips with riding a bike! Car transportation is one of the biggest offenders of fossil fuel emissions, unless you have an EV.  Finding other modes of transportation can be a great, fun way to reduce your impact!

Picking out a bike may feel a bit overwhelming, but there are some great resources out there, including many local bike shops who are always willing to help. The fall season is a great time to be shopping for one, as bicycle universe explains in this article! And many shops are now having fall sales. Support your Local Bike Shop!

If purchasing a new bike is not in your budget, considering a used one can be a less expensive and a more sustainable option. There are many available on facebook marketplace or craigslist - just make sure you know your size and test ride them before purchasing!

*Plan your meal to minimize food waste this season!

*Sign up for municipal curbside compositing to minimize your waste.

*Shift your menu to more to plant-based and less towards meat and dairy.

Food waste accounts for a significant portion of green house gas emissions.

EPA data show that food waste is the single most common material landfilled and incinerated in the U.S., comprising 24 and 22 percent of landfilled and combusted municipal solid waste, respectively.
