Dear Seafoodies
You would be forgiven for thinking, by the title, I might be referring to England’s thrilling series win over New Zealand in the T20 cricket at the weekend (got to feel it for those black-caps!), but in fact I’m announcing that Bute St Seafoodie has passed the 50 mark in terms of number of recipes posted. At the outset, I laid myself the challenge of posting 100 recipes within the space of a year and having reached the half-century in 5 months, it looks game-on for the century by next summer.
At the weekend it was evident that the net sessions in the English Channel were having similarly successful results to the recent net sessions of the England cricket team. There was quite a wide variety of fish on offer and the bass were in outstanding form, both in terms of quantity and quality. I am reliably informed that the best fishing of the year is around now.
Some of the species we don't see so much of the rest of the year had put in an appearance, including red mullet, gurnard, whiting, codling, as well as grey mullet and a solitary monkfish. There are, of course, plenty of ideas up on the blog as to what can be done with those species, but perhaps a few that are worth a mention just at the moment include (images clockwise from top-left):
