Eternal Bloom

New work inspired by the emergence of bud and blossom

'A Summoning of Leaves'

Very simply, these three images created during April, May, and the first days of June, arose after witnessing a seemingly sudden overnight appearance of leaf and petal, like a sea of green stars upon a tree. Struck by the urgency and beauty of this, I have aimed to express a hidden quality made visible - like the trees and plants themselves - the surging quintessence of Nature that enlivens all beings.

Also in mind is the renowned absence of trees in parts of Scotland. You may like to look at the work of this charity in bringing about a new era of wood and forest in this country. Based at Findhorn, near Inverness, Trees For Life seek to rejuvenate areas in which the tree is conspicuous by its absence.

Professional Membership of the Society of Scottish Artists.

In other news, I am very pleased to have recently been elected a Professional Member of the Society of Scottish Artists. Over the past few years my work has featured in two successful Annual Exhibitions with the Society at the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh. Founded in 1891 the SSA has been a continuous presence in Scottish art. I am particularly fond of this wee nugget of its history.

"In 1931, for the first time in the UK, the Society showed twelve canvases by the then highly controversial Edvard Munch who went on to become a member of the Society."

You can find out more about the exhibitions organised by the Society, and its history, at the link below.
