Canyon Camp had a very successful 86th summer on the banks of Coon Creek with more than 1,000 Scouts and Leaders coming through our front gate over five weeks of Scouts BSA camping and one busy Webelos Weekend. On top of this, we have many school groups coming in this late summer and early autumn to experience our property and program areas, particularly our high ropes course, zip line, and climbing wall! |

Fall Woodcutter's Ball- October 8 |
The Monroe Kiwanis Club is again sponsoring this event and is inviting Kiwanians, Scouters and friends of Canyon Camp to participate! | | |
This annual workday has the primary focus of preparing the camp for the winter camping season. This includes cutting, splitting, and delivering split firewood to the cabins used by Scouts throughout the winter months. Scouters are asked to bring chainsaws, splitters, and appropriate work clothes to work in the woods. (Note: Only trained operators may use chain saws). Pickup trucks and trailers are very helpful to accomplish the cabin wood project. Additionally, we will be continuing the Lookout trail improvement project and starting the winterization process for camp buildings. Six Spirit Scholarships Awarded |
Since its inception in 1992, the Spirit Scholarship Fund has awarded more than $65,000. Through 2022 178 awards have been given. The Spirit Scholarship Endowment Fund has grown over the years with an ultimate goal to exceed $150,000 in the endowment to perpetually fund Staff Scholarships at Canyon Camp for the foreseeable future. |
The funds are used each year to recognize those who most unselfishly have shared their experience, time and skills to make the summer a positive experience for the Scouts, Scouters and Staff members with whom they've worked. At the 2022 Staff Dinner Camp Director Seth Kannarr and Assistant Director Alex Kloepping presented six scholarships of $700.00 each payable in the Spring Semester: Spirit of Canyon Camp Scholarship - Dylan Berry - University of Wisconsin Eau Claire Troy E. Larson Memorial Scholarship - Louie Nielsen - University of Vermont Dennis W. Pratt Memorial Scholarship - Owen Wells - St. Norbert's College Michael E. Beeth Scholarship - Adam Swisher - Texas Tech University Gene A. Nott Scholarship - Michael Watson - University of Illinois Novinski Family Scholarship - Samuel Satterlee - St. Norbert's College Scholarship funding comes from staff alumni, Scouters, and Friends of Canyon Camp. Individuals making tax deductible contributions may select prints of pen and ink drawings of Canyon Camp scenes. To date, artist Elaine Bethke of Monroe has generated ten different prints. If you are interested in supporting the Spirit Scholarship Fund contact Ron Spielman @ 608-325-6490 or spiel335@tds.net |

The Friends of Canyon Camp will be continuing their work towards these efforts as some minor vernacular changes may occur. Keep an eye out for the same great support opportunities.
