| En Root |

We are officially headed into our third year of OutGrowth and our third volume of En Root! To celebrate, we are kicking it off with an entire issue and month centered around wellness. Let us explain.

At OutGrowth, we are rooted in the belief that our education and our careers are multi-dimensional, which is why we seek to build dynamic experiences for students and professionals that will round out the traditional linear approach to living and working. We stand by the idea that limiting learning to a controlled environment does not serve us. We must begin to create intersections.

The concept of wellness, too, has mistakenly been separated from our educational and professional trajectories. It's often seen as an add-on to our day-to-day rather than a driving force. In the spirit of approaching our personal and professional lives from a more holistic perspective, we bring to you the wellness philosophies, tools and resources that will make you more grounded, more centered and, get this, more successful in your career.

We cannot continue to build our lives in isolated building blocks, silo by silo. Wellness, learning and living require integrative approaches. Looking at how we manage our time, how we approach our physical health, what guides our relationships and how we define our life vision and values - these are all components of a life grounded in wellness. Our wellness strategies are determining factors when it comes to happiness and growth, on all levels.

This is timely, given that this week, we are leading a Women in Business workshop- Made for More: Your Path to Bravery. We talk about our personal and professional ecosystems and the roles they play in our approach to business. You can still register and join the conversation on December 5!

In this packed issue, we give you leaders from different stages of their careers who are committed to using wellness to build a well-lived life and an intentional career path. Happy reading.

Pattie and I started FIT2order in 2008, and have been on an epic training regime ever since.

At FIT2order, we believe that everyone can fit FITness into their work-lifestyles, regardless of:

  • time constraints
  • a demanding work culture
  • health limitations, like chronic illness

When I think of a wellness journey in regard to my personal and professional life, I think of how it’s all connected. It all plays into one story that is my life, through all the turns and different paths I’ve walked. It has played a significant role in maintaining my identity while everything changes around me.

How to Show Up in Life

I was at a Farm to Business event for OutGrowth and Carey Business School and felt God tell me to “put myself out there.” I think pathway carving involves pure honesty and openness. Being honest with yourself, what you are sensing, and being open to what you realize in the process.

'There are 168 hours in each week. How do we find time for what matters most? Time management expert Laura Vanderkam studies how busy people spend their lives, and she's discovered that many of us drastically overestimate our commitments each week, while underestimating the time we have to ourselves. She offers a few practical strategies to help find more time for what matters to us, so we can "build the lives we want in the time we've got."'
