Dear Parents/Carers,
Another busy month draws to a close at Sacred Heart with both students and staff ready for the half term break. Public examinations for Year 11 and Year 13 are well under way with the second week of assessment nearly over. Despite us knowing that this is a stressful time for all, the girls have been upbeat and displayed great resilience, showing that hard work really does pay off.
As a teacher of English, I was very proud to hear about the work of our Year 12 LitSoc. In conversation with our guest lecturer Mr Sewell, who has facilitated all the sessions this academic year, he outlined how students had spent their time getting to know the focus text and came up with interesting, original comments and questions, thriving under the non-judgmental, unassessed regime. They were not fazed in the presence of a professor from Cambridge University, rather they grasped the opportunity and were able to grapple with some challenging literary concepts and hold their own in the discussion. Well done to all.
It is equally heartwarming to hear about how some of our oldest students are supporting our youngest in the Sacred Heart Community. Reading, especially reading for pleasure, is so very important and supporting all of our students to become confident readers is at the forefront of everything we do at Sacred Heart.
The GCSE and A Level Art, Ceramics and Textiles Exhibition last night was nothing short of brilliant. We have very talented students who have put their heart and soul into their creative studies, with so many amazing pieces on display last night, every parent I spoke to was delighted and very proud. Congratulations to all students and staff.
Today we say goodbye to our Year 11 and Year 13 as they depart for study leave. From Monday 5th June, students in both these Year groups will only come to school for their exams. However, staff will still be available to support, with some subjects having already planned revision sessions. We hope all of our students return well rested after their half term break and ready to do their best.
Best Wishes,
Mrs Howell
