#GivingTuesday E Ala E Hawaiian Cultural Center joins the global nonprofit community to support GivingTuesday. GivingTuesday is an inclusive community of millions of givers, with activity in every country on every continent. GivingTuesday celebrates and uplifts grassroots generosity, and generosity as a universally held value. It inspires people to take collective action to improve their communities, give back in better, smarter ways to the charities and causes they believe in, and help create a better world. GivingTuesday demonstrates how every act of generosity counts, and that they mean even more when we give together. Let’s innovate, collaborate, and inspire collective generosity as a way to build the world we all want to live in. |

Zoom Piko Promise We value these moments spent with Kumu Kaleo. Although we are unable to spend in-person time amidst the pandemic, we create these opportunities to persevere. Alaka’i are given kuleana (responsibilities) to increase the ‘ike (knowledge) received in each session, and is given valuable feedback to ensure language, protocols, and history are recited with confidence. |

From the Hale of Kumu Kaleo Trinidad During this time of year, we encourage everyone to kupu (to grow) in service. I kupu kea’a i ke kumu (nurture the roots for the plant/tree to flourish). Although we can not do all the good that the world needs, our world needs all the good that we can do. Acts-of-kindness are a great way to KUPU in service this season; no kindness is too big or too small to make a world of difference. |

Seared Ahi Tuna Poke Salad with Hula Ginger Vinaigrette Sauce with Wonton Chips As most of you know, poke is chopped, raw fish, most commonly seasoned with sesame oil and soy sauce. The term poke means to “cut into cubes,” which is how these street-style fish dishes are served. In pre-contact times, native Hawaiians feasted on freshly caught fish massaged with sea salt, seaweed and crushed inamona (kukui nuts). Today, the “Melting Pot” of islands has developed a distinct food landscape. It’s no wonder why poke has become trendy from Los Angeles to Kansas City to New York. We hope you enjoy this recipe: Seared Ahi Tuna Poke Salad with Hula Ginger Vinaigrette Sauce with Wonton Crisps |
