Walter's Walk

A nonprofit organization

Walter's Walk aims to take a well-rounded approach in nurturing a healthier community by reducing psychological distress through counseling, psychoeducation, and community engagement. Counseling services are facilitated by a diverse group of contracted professionals that specialize in different treatment approaches and modalities, including individual, marriage, and family therapy. The clinical work conducted at Walter's Walk consists of evidence-based treatments that reflect the needs of the community, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Play Therapy.

Walter's Walk also acknowledges the role social support plays in maintaining healthy mental wellbeing and thus expanded its services to include therapeutic groups and psychoeducational classes. It is common for many to feel isolated in their pain, yet a group setting will highlight the notion of universality. Through shared experiences, members will learn and practice new adaptive coping skills in a microcosm of the real world. Additionally, psychoeducational classes offer clients and caregivers the opportunity to learn about mental illnesses. These meetings are also open to community members in efforts to reduce the stigma associated with behavioral health.

Walter's Walk is dedicated to fostering belonginess within our community by providing a space that allows clients and community members to experience peer support in a non-traditional therapeutic setting. For instance, Walter's Walk sponsors six Coffee House Concerts per year, which emphasizes the usage of music as an adaptive coping skill to promote relaxation. These events allow clients to practice their new coping skills in situations that reflect more of their life outside of the counseling session. In other words, these activities serve as a transitional bridge from learning the skills to applying them in a nonthreatening environment.
