Our Spiritual Guest for the Compassion Consortium  April 21 service will be Barbara Gardner, founder and the Chief Executive of the Animal Interfaith Alliance (AIA) -- the premiere world-wide animal rights organization.

Barbara has been the treasurer and a trustee of the RSPCA and was awarded their Queen Victoria Silver Medal for long and meritorious service for animal welfare.  She has been the editor of Catholic Concern for Animals’ magazine, The Ark and she edited AIA’s magazine Animal Spirit.  Barbara is the author of The Compassionate Animal: An Interfaith Guide to the Extended Circle of Compassion

The Animal Interfaith Alliance is a unique alliance of the world’s most influential faith-based animal advocacy organizations that speaks out on the moral treatment of animals by drawing on the combined wisdom of all faiths and worldviews. It promotes social harmony by bringing the faith groups together on an issue they all share a concern for. AIA’s activities include animal advocacy and education.

The AIA is a United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) accredited organization and a member of UNEP’s Faith for Earth Coalition . It is also a member of the World Federation for Animals (WFA) and Eurogroup for Animals (EIA).

Why Faith Matters?

People of faith make up over 80% of the world’s population. Their views make a difference and can lead to global transformation. All faiths teach compassion to animals.

The Compassion Consortium is a board member of the AIA.

On April 21 our CIA guest will be Lauren Uram, campaign coordinator for Pro-Animal Future (PAF).

Lauren is the campaign coordinator for Pro-Animal Future, a grassroots community working on a society-level evolution away from animal exploitation. PAF is working on two initiatives that will appear on Denver’s November 2024 ballot--one is to ban the sale of new fur products, and another to ban the operation of slaughterhouses in the city. Lauren studied Ecology at CU Boulder and is passionate about helping create a world where nature, humans, and other animals are all accepted and respected.

Leave Fur Behind

Fur clothing is a cruel and unnecessary industry that has fallen out of public favor. Yet millions of animals are still raised in cages and killed for the sake of luxury fur sales. In 2024, Denver voters will have the opportunity to help eliminate the sale of fur in their city.

Leave Slaughter Behind

Slaughterhouses are inhuman to workers, animals, and the surrounding communities they pollute. Denver voters can phase out one of the worst industries in their city while voting for a kinder and more sustainable future.

ABOUT SUNDAY SERVICES

When: The third Sunday of each month (see upcoming dates at top of this page)

  • Service from 4 pm - 5:30 pm U.S. Eastern Time

  • Fellowship is available after the service

How: Currently via Zoom. Register for link.

Why:  We recognize that many people do not see their deeply rooted compassion for all creatures reflected in some houses of worship and that some people have left their religion of birth or choice for this reason. The Compassion Consortium is here to supplement this "missing piece" for persons who are part of another religious or spiritual community, and those who are not. We welcome participants of all faiths or none. Learn more about us.

Creative programming: Each month's program is unique, and features either a solo presentation or panel discussion with experts from various religious and philosophical traditions who share the conviction that all living kind, and the planet itself, deserve respect, justice, and loving kindness. View replays of our past services here,

Spiritual practices: Each service also includes elements of traditional worship services—such as music, meditation, and movement. We hope these practices help each participant personally express faith, gratitude, and celebration to the degree that they wish to participate.
