Madam's Corner As this year winds down and a new year begins; all of us have one-of-a-kind memories of 2020. Mine are a renewed love of family and friends; a genuine insight into how kindness and compassion can make a difference and most of all being thankful for continued good health for those that I hold most dear. As members of the Matlacha Hookers, you should all be very proud of what we were able to accomplish this year. Our Outreach Committee did an outstanding job this year in helping those families and individuals in need. Our Scholarship Committee; along with the fundraising through our dedication to ArtFest Fort Myers, the Bag ‘n Tag ‘n Breakfast and Note Card sales, once again made the dreams of eleven (11) individuals seeking higher education come true. And then, our little corner of the world shut down for a very extended period of time. Yet, the Board was able to meet via conference call every month. We finally set up WebEx Meetings and were able to resume our General Membership Meeting and will continue to do that in the years going forward. |

We voted and gave out donations. Even though we typically Christmas Carol about six (6) times a year; we were still able to Carol twice this year and raised over $1,240 for F.I.S.H. for the Christmas Basket Brigade budget for next year. The final numbers for all of our 2020 donations will be revealed at the January meeting. As the new year begins; we’re making plans. Yes; we may have to adjust and adapt. But, all in all we’re much better prepared to do so. It is with great joy that I personally wish you all a Very Happy New Year!! |

Outreach Committee Update from Genie Andrews, 239-283-0349 The family in Palms of Pine Island who suffered the house fire continues to need help. So far, we have helped the husband to begin replacing his carpentry tools through Hooker and private donation Home Depot cards and the generosity of a Hooker who offered her late husband's tools. We have also donated diapers, wet wipes and bottled water. Helping this family of six is an ongoing community effort. A number of agencies have contributed food and clothing and made possible a Christmas celebration. In addition the PICC was able to provide a used kitchen stove. They are in continued need of paper towels, toilet paper, size 5 diapers, wet wipes and bottled water. Please drop off donations at Traders' Hitching Post in Matlacha or bring to the January 14th general meeting. Monetary donations can be made on our website. Please add 'For Family In Need' in the notes section when entering your payment information. |
