As kids, we know the excitement of receiving and opening gifts during the holidays. We also know the joy of giving gifts to others – it feels good to make others happy.
For low-income families, getting and giving gifts is anything but a certainty during the holidays. Even without COVID, the holiday season is always a time of heightened stress. For some parents, buying even modest gifts for their children competes with putting food on the table and paying for rent and utilities.
Imagine how stressful it is for a parent to have to tell their children that they can’t afford to buy them any holiday gifts. This is the reality for dozens of families living in our community. And COVID has only increased the number of families that will have such a conversation this holiday season.
Kids Backing Kids wants every child in our community to have gifts they can open this holiday season. We want to take some of the financial stress off vulnerable families and bring some joy to children in need. We are partnering with the local housing authority, health department, and schools to do our first annual Holiday Gift Drive.
But we need your help. There are 75 families in Wellesley that will have a difficult time making ends meet this holiday season.
Please consider sponsoring a family and bring some joy to kids for the holidays.
If you agree to sponsor a family, we’ll give you a list of gifts the children have asked for (max 3 gifts per child, max $250 per family). You can buy the gifts yourself and arrange for them to be delivered to us for wrapping - or we'll pick them up at your home or business. We'll make sure they get to the family. If you prefer, you can make a donation in any amount and we’ll use those funds to sponsor as many families as we can as an organization. Thanks!
