“Fighting like a warrior means not being afraid to be yourself on your good days and your bad days. For my little warrior princess it means overcoming fears, crying when you want to cry, and doing what you love despite limitations you may have. When first diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, she couldn’t jump, she could barely walk, she feared each doctors appointment, and now she jumps and dances into each doctors appointment as though she is ready to take on the world. She dreams of being a ballerina princess and an Olympic gymnast and doesn’t let her diagnosis hold her back. On her good days and bad days she stays true to herself and fights to find the joy in each circumstance.”

World Hepatitis Day

July 28th - Focus: Hepatitis C (HCV)

Get tested! Take care of your liver!

What does the liver do? As one of the most important organs in the body, you cannot survive without your liver because it performs vital bodily functions. It fights off infection, helps digest food, stores energy and nutrients, and removes harmful chemicals from the blood.

When the liver becomes infected, that leads to an inflammation called hepatitis. Today we are focusing on the most under diagnosed type of hepatitis – hepatitis C (HCV). With hepatitis C there may be mild flu-like symptoms lasting for a short time, but most people do not know that they have been infected. That is why it is often called the “silent epidemic” and is the leading cause of liver disease. If the person is not diagnosed with HCV, the symptoms may remain mild, or even non-existent, for decades while the liver damage continues. This is called chronic hepatitis C and could last a lifetime. HCV is the most serious of the hepatitis viruses and spreads through blood-to-blood contact.

"I don't look sick, but..."

We recently shared this message on Instagram & Facebook with our community, asking our fellow warriors to help make the invisible battles we fight everyday a little more visible by sharing their own "I don't look sick, but..." response in our comments section. We were blown away by the answers we got!

Being able to read your stories & what you all battle on a daily basis not only inspired our team, but made all of our warriors feel less alone on this journey. If you haven't had a chance to share or read some of the responses, check out the Instagram post and/or the Facebook post!
