2021: My Extraordinary Year of Learning

Looking back at year’s end, the ability to be present in multiple communities while being stationary and safe at home has had a ‘silver lining’ for me: embracing online education with all corners of the world.

Our unexpected transition from in-person to online began early 2020 when learning on multiple platforms became the new normal.

My appreciation soared for arts organizations that transitioned to bring us rich online content, and like many of you I immersed myself as a student of the new learning environment.

While conducting research online has long been fruitful, online capabilities have evolved and we can now count ourselves as audience members at international events, visiting virtual Viewing Rooms and attending public programs at festivals, art & photobook fairs.

Staying current while staying home

I gratefully and enthusiastically join classes with curators, gallerists, publishers, collectors, lawyers, agents, special collections librarians, photo editors & photo researchers, social media strategists and of course artists engaged in their practice. Virtual educational panels now more than ever have provided an opportunity to be in public dialogue with artists and industry leaders to further understand and appreciate the impact of online engagement.

Advancing the potential this offers, I have begun to present in-depth seminars and lead panels on presenting and marketing art work in ways that are relevant and essential in these unprecedented times. I’ve applied this practice to create an innovative, comprehensive course with three integrated components, developed in partnership with La Luz Workshops, launching January 8, 2022.

“Finding Your Audience: An Introduction to Marketing Your Photographs” represents my preeminent dream class, using different learning methods and offered online to bring this knowledge to artists, teachers and advisors around the world.

I will present a series of 6 “Core Lectures” with recordings available to participants for re-play.  Participants will have the option to add 6 integrated “Applied Study Seminars” to apply the class information in practical ways, during which we will be joined by 14 industry experts serving as our Special Guests. For participants who enroll in both sections, learning will be further enhanced by a private online discussion forum organized by topic with related shared resources at your fingertips, and have the opportunity to apply for Small Group Project Reviews.

You will find a short video about the course, as well as all details on the webpage here: https://www.laluzworkshops.com/finding-your-audience-an-introduction-to-marketing-your-photographs

The graphic below visually depicts the course, which I have also shared on my Instagram feed.

Join us January 8 for this special educational opportunity and begin the year with the insights and skills to energize and move your career forward!

In these challenging times, I hope you too have found sources of inspiration – your ‘silver linings’ that enrich and motivate you to new heights of creativity and shared community. I wish all of you a wonderful, safe holiday and a year of enrichment and learning in 2022.
