TURKEYS ARE AMAZING!
Turkeys are very friendly and social. They love to be petted and will even sit down on your feet to try to get attention.
Turkeys are fast. They can run as fast as 35 miles per hour and can fly as fast as 55 miles an hour.
Turkeys see three times more clearly than you do. They also have a 270-degree field of vision.
Turkeys like to look their best. They like to groom their feathers with dust baths and preening.
Turkeys are extremely curious and are always checking out interesting sights, sounds, and visitors.
Turkeys choose their favorite humans. They can remember your face and they will sit closer to you with each day you visit.
Turkeys like to play together and make a purring sound much like cats do.
Turkeys blush just like humans. When turkeys are confident, excited, or sick, the skin on their heads and necks can change colors.
TURKEYS ARE FRIENDS, NOT FOOD!
With Thanksgiving quickly approaching, most of us don't stop to think about the turkey on our plate and where that turkey came from.
The sad truth is that turkeys, like all birds raised for food, endure nightmarish lives on factory farms from the moment they're born until they're killed. These sensitive and intelligent animals are subjected to painful mutilations without painkillers, crammed by the thousands into windowless sheds, and bred to grow so quickly they often become immobilized under their own weight.
They are sent to slaughter at 5 months old where they will be shackled, hung upside down, stunned by electrified water and then have their throats cut.
Sadly, 223 million are slaughtered just for the November and December holiday season.
This Thanksgiving, be the change for the turkeys. If you want to make a real difference in the life of a turkey, the simplest decision is to not put one on your dinner plate. Try something new, like eating a plant-based dinner. By doing this we can transform our food system, improve our health, safeguard our planet, and improve the lives of billions of innocent farmed animals.
