Dear friends and music lovers,
You haven't heard from us for a while as, sadly, since the middle of December all our concerts were cancelled. We had so hoped to be able to play another try-out concert in preparation for our upcoming CD recording Celebrating Women! which we wrote about in our last newsletter, but unfortunately that wasn't to be. We've been keeping busy though, making good use of the extra time with intense rehearsal preparation for the coming recording sessions which will take place from Wednesday 14 to Friday 16 April in the Westvest90 Church in Schiedam. We're excited to work with the wonderful sound engineer Tom Peeters of Cobra Records again who recorded our last, successful CD After the Darkness.
At the end of March we had the unexpected opportunity to move our rehearsals to the beautiful Diligentia Theatre in The Hague. The technical staff were looking for an ensemble to help them try out their new cameras and microphones for streaming future concerts and we were happy to help out!
We now have a few nice recordings and the experience of playing in such a special place brought us a little closer to the feeling of performing concerts again. We hope you enjoy our film of the Scherzo from Emmy Frensel Wegener's Suite; a sneak peek of the repertoire we will be performing in our Celebrating Women! concerts and on our CD.
In addition, we applied for the special Corona Balkonscènes fund set up by the Performing Arts Fund NL; a fund to make 'small scale live productions within the current restrictions' possible. Our application was successful which means we have been able to organise a small series of concerts in three different locations, each with two one hour concerts in which we will showcase three female composers; Miriam Hyde, Emmy Frensel Wegener and Ethel Smyth. The dates and locations are as follows; Sunday 9 May in De Duif in Amsterdam, Saturday 26 June in the Sint Aegtenkapel in Amersfoort and Sunday 4 July in the MuziekHaven in Zaandam.
Of course we can never be completely sure if all our concerts, especially the ones coming up soon, will be able to go ahead. We'd still like to bring them to your attention, just in case!
