Roshaan, Alpha, and Mohsina from Kainaat Studios were a part of Science Fuse's Summer Camp in Lahore to conduct some super fun and engaging astronomy activities. We also screened some clips and skits from our Kainaat Kids Khabrein which the kids seemed to enjoy a lot! |

Day 1 - Solar system model |
In this activity, we fit our entire solar system inside our classroom! Using simple materials like ice cream sticks and disposable plates, we scaled down distances from 1 Astronomical Unit (AU) to 1 foot. At the end, we gave away solar glasses so kids can safely look at the sun and show the same to their parents and siblings. |

Using an old CD and foldable prints, the children built their own working spectroscopes! As they pointed their spectroscopes at windows, fluorescent lamps, and LED screens, they revealed and split the different bands and wavelengths of visible light. Students experienced how astronauts use a similar technique to understand the composition of stars, planets, and other celestial objects! The day concluded with an exciting laser show. |

Day - Sundial and Solar Observation |
We used a pencil and a printed layout to build accurate sundials (dhoop gari)! To test them, we headed to the rooftop and positioned the sundials facing North. When the sundial time matched our phones and watches, the kids made sure to scream with excitement, shaking the entire floor (and perhaps the whole building!). At the end, students (and the SF fellows) observed the sun through a telescope fitted with a solar filter. The sunspots on the sun's surface sparked many questions and discussions! |

This beautiful galaxy is called M81, or Bode’s galaxy. It is about 12 million light years away from Earth. This picture was taken by Ayan Ifzal from Lahore using a computerized telescope, with dedicated cameras meant for astrophotography. The shape of the galaxy qualifies as a grand design spiral. You can see its beautiful arms and the central core clearly in this picture. |
