MEMBERSHIP MEETING MARCH 19th
WITH GUEST SPEAKER JOHN DEAHL

Our next membership meeting will take place on Tuesday, March 19th from 4:00 to 5:30 PM at the Skidaway Community Church with guest speaker John Deahl, co-owner of Gallery 80 on Tybee Island. John is no stranger to the art world. His mother was an art connoisseur who not only passed down her appreciation of art but also her keen curation skills. A framer by trade and a former City Market studio owner, John found a way to put his knowledge and passion to ultimate use by opening an art gallery with his partner and artist, Brad Hook, called Gallery 80.

Join us on March 19th for a private look into the world of the art gallery - learn how to get your art accepted into a gallery, what gallery owners look for in an artist's work, questions to ask before accepting an offer, and other helpful tips of the trade. John is both knowledgeable and entertaining, so don't miss this meeting!

LAA Arts in Education Grant Fiber Art Project

The LAA Arts in Education Committee is pleased to report that the 23/24 Penny Day Thompson Arts in Education Grant project is well underway at Hesse school.

Art teacher, Michelle Chung-Samuels, reports that the 7th and 8th grade students are making progress with their weaving pieces. The quality of their work is improving as they gain a deeper understanding of the intricate techniques that require patience, precision, and dedication.

This teamwork and collaboration will ultimately produce a large-scale fiber art installation, creating a sense of pride and connection among students, teachers, parents, and the wider community. The above photos show some individual weavings in progress during November.
