PEANUT BUTTER BUDDIES COLLECTION DRIVE IN FULL SWING! |
| | Peanut Butter Buddies is gaining momentum, thanks to local businesses and public institutions, Country Superstars 102.3 FM, and community members. Donations of peanut butter, a shelf-stable protein, are very much needed for JCPS students in our local BackPack Buddies program, as protein is essential for growing children and enables them to focus, concentrate and do better in school. BackPack Buddies provides children from low-income households with nutritious, kid-friendly groceries for the weekend when free school lunches and breakfasts are not provided. This is a great chance for all of us to make a difference right here in Johnston County! | | |
| | You can help JWL reach our goal of collecting 3,300 jars of peanut butter to give to over 800 children in Johnston County Public Schools enrolled in the BackPack Buddies Program! We have 3 easy ways for the community -and beyond!- to contribute to our Peanut Butter Buddies drive. Stop by any of our 14 Donation Stations listed here and drop off jars of peanut butter (any size) through April 8th. If you are unable to collect peanut butter and bring the jars to our Donation Station boxes, but still wish to contribute, monetary donations can be made via PayPal on our website and through shopping our Amazon Charity List, which will be shipped directly to JWL. Thank you for your support! | | |

In 2019, 12.2% of the people living in Johnston County were food insecure. Currently, the projected overall food insecurity rate of Johnston County residents is 13.5%, in part as a result of COVID-19. For these families, children, and elderly neighbors of ours, ‘experiencing food insecurity’ means not always having daily meals, or uncertainty of where their next meal will come from. This is why the Junior Women’s League of Smithfield remains steadfast in its fight to end hunger and positively impact the lives of Johnston County's citizens through our Blessing Box program, which are small pantries located at fire departments throughout the county, stocked with free food and personal care items for people in need. ReEntry Family Services is a small nonprofit that began serving Johnston County families in 1998. They serve 60 families a week, providing a minimum of 90 minutes of service, for programs such as the Family Pride parenting program, HALT domestic violence prevention program, and the Healthy Choices youth program. ReEntry is expanding their reach by adding the TND Project “Toward No Drugs”. |
TND is a substance abuse program for teens that focuses on character building and providing life skills, while lessening substance abuse, deterring interaction with the court system and helping them succeed in school. It is ReEntry’s hope that teaching our youth these life skills will help them become successful individuals in our community. It is for all of these reasons that the proceeds of the 2022 Big Night Out will support both the monthly restocking for each of our ten Blessing Boxes throughout the next service year and also ReEntry’s class materials for their TND project. We ask for your support for this important work as a sponsor of JWL’s Big Night Out, scheduled for Saturday, May 21st at The Farm at 95. With entertainment by the North Tower Band, it is sure to be a fun night with a big crowd eager to support a great cause. We would be honored for you to consider being a sponsor! To learn more, please visit our Big Night Out website. |
