Member Spotlight

Rob Warren and Daniel

This month's Member Spotlight is Rob Warren and his son Daniel!

So Rob, where and when do you like to ride your bike?
We try and ride our bikes to and from school as well as for various errands and outings around Gibsons. Our favourite bike trip is riding out to Sprockids for some laps of Pineapple Express followed by food at Persephone Brewing!

Why do you choose to ride your bike? Why not drive?
Our number one reason is the interactions you have with other people when you are on the bike. It's so easy to stop and chat with friends you run into while out on a ride. It also opens up more opportunities to explore streets and trails you would not use when travelling by car.

If you had one wish for cycling on the Sunshine Coast, what would it be?
It's hard to choose! There's lots to love about riding on the coast, but lots that can be improved as well. One thing at the top of the list is the lack of safe shoulders for riding and walking along some of the roads that connect our communities and provide access to amenities. I'm thinking specifically about parts of Marine Drive near Gibsons and Lower Road heading into Roberts Creek. Wider shoulders (or any shoulder at all) would benefit all users of these routes, not just bike riders!

As this month's member spotlight, Rob will receive a copy of Let’s Go Biking: Vancouver Island, Gulf Islands and Sunshine Coast, courtesy of author and TraC supporter, Colleen MacDonald.
