PASTORAL PAGE RESPONDING TO PERSECUTIONS by Asst Ps Patrick Chan Yin I recently read of the tragic news of fellow Christians being persecuted by some angry Muslim mobs in a Christian colony in Pakistan (https://churchleaders.com/news/458785-voice-of-the-martyrs-muslim-mob-attacks-christian-colony-vom.html). As a result of these violences, churches were burned down, Christian homes were ransacked and destroyed. We should not be surprised that believers would be persecuted. In fact, 1 Peter 4:12-13 reminds us, "Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed." The Bible acknowledges that persecution is not a new phenomenon and even encourages us to respond with steadfastness and joy, knowing that our faith is tested. Jesus himself encourages us in Matthew 5:10-12, "Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven." Let me humbly suggest few ways we should respond to persecutions as followers of Christ:.......... Read More > |

NEPAL RETOOLING WORKSHOP AND VISITING OF CHURCHES (24 SEPTEMBER - 3 OCTOBER) We are currently supporting 21 church planters (CPs) and four assistant CPs, one Church Planting Overseer (CPO) and one admin staff. We have been involved in Nepal Church Planting Mission for more than 14 years now. As a part of our equipping program, we will be conducting retooling workshops for the Nepal church planters from 25-28 September near Kathmandu. Paul Lim, Lim Eng and Asst Ps Gift Daniel will travel from Singapore on 24 September for the retooling workshop and Keow Yeong Fai will travel on 28 September to visit churches in East Nepal. The purpose of the retooling workshop is to equip our church planters for further ministry and help us better understand their challenges and concerns in ministry. Most of the workshop participants will travel by bus (10-12 hours) to Kathmandu. Kindly pray for the following: Protection for the team travelling from Singapore and for the CPs who will be travelling by road within Nepal. The preparation of the team, which includes the team from Singapore, as well as Jonathan Tamang (CPO) and for Dr Ananda Tamang who will be speaking at our main retooling sessions. The retooling workshop sessions will meet the equipping needs of the church planters. Pray that it will be a good time of fellowship and mutual sharing of ministry vision and ideas between the church planters. Pray that the CPs will be encouraged and ministered by our team. After the retooling workshop, Jonathan, Yeong Fai and Asst Ps Gift Daniel will be visiting churches and some of the new CPs in East Nepal from 29 September to 3 October. There will also be a church building dedication. Pray for journey mercies as some of these churches are situated in remote locations.
Note: From 7-15 October, a team of 9 mission trippers will embark on a dental mission trip to West Nepal. Please look out for prayer points in the coming weeks for the dental trip. For more information, please contact Asst Ps Gift Daniel at giftdaniel@biblechurch.sg. |

CRUX "CHRIST & CULTURE" SERIES Dates: 24 September, 1 & 8 October Time: 2pm Venue: Peace Sanctuary Part of obeying our call to be witnesses of Jesus is to engage the culture we are in with gospel truths and values. Join us for the following Crux services, where we have planned a series of thought-provoking sermons that delves into the intersection of our faith and culture: 24 Sep - Engaging Culture (Rev Ng Zhiwen) 1 Oct - Culture of Life (Mrs Jennifer Heng) 8 Oct - Culture of Creation Care (Ms Liaw Ann Shin) |

PRAYER@CG CLUSTER Date: 29 September 2023 (Friday) Venue: Various Platforms: Physical and/or Digital Amongst the young adults and adults who worship at The Bible Church, approximately 30%-35% attend Prayer@CG meetings but only 5%-10% attend Church Prayer Meetings. A major reason for greater attendance at Prayer@CG may be familiarity and a sense of ownership. With the hope of encouraging more of us to participate in corporate prayer this year, we have replaced two Church Prayer Meetings with Prayer@CG Clusters meetings. The 5 CG Clusters will meet as 5 gatherings for prayer, led by the respective CG Overseers (CGOs). The CGOs will coordinate through the respective CG Leaders. Those who do not belong to a CG may reach out to any of the CGOs (Pastors Keet Keong, Kok Wah, Wei-en, Gift & Timothy) to join the 2nd Prayer@CG Cluster prayer meeting on 29 September. |

SCE-MISSIONS ZOOM SEMINARS ON CROSS-CULTURAL OUTREACH In line with our pulpit series on the book of Acts, we are organizing Zoom seminars related to cross-cultural outreach on 7 and 14 October 2023 (Saturdays) from 1.00pm to 4.15pm. Each seminar will have an exposition of selected passages from the book of Acts followed by a workshop related to cross-cultural outreach. Seminar 1 (7 October) Exposition - Commitment to Cross-Cultural Outreach: The Church in Antioch (Speaker: Dr Ajith Fernando) How a busy urban church with local challenges could still be committed to the challenge of taking the gospel to the unreached. Workshop - Reaching the Marginalized Communities Overseas (Facilitators: TBC Young Adults Mission Team) How do we reach and empower the marginalized communities overseas? What are some challenges faced by children and youths who are displaced? This workshop will help offer insights as to how education assistance programs such as GoToSchool or GoToUni program can bring dignity and equality to the marginalized communities overseas.
Seminar 2 (14 October) Exposition - Principles of Cross-Cultural Outreach: Paul's Ministry in Athens (Speaker: Dr Ajith Fernando) What will it take for us to break barriers and effectively communicate the gospel to unreached peoples. Workshop - Befriending Friends from Other Culture (Facilitator: Tami Koh from Interserve, Singapore) The lack of cultural understanding has created a divide that must be bridged so that we can be representatives of Christ to the sons and daughters of Ishmael. This workshop will help offer insights into our friend’s worldview as well as giving us some handles in building friendships that point to Christ.
Dr Ajith Fernando was the National Director of Youth for Christ in Sri Lanka for thirty-five years and now serves as its Teaching Director, spending much time mentoring and counselling young Christian workers. He has a worldwide Bible teaching ministry. He studied at Asbury and Fuller Seminaries and is a visiting lecturer at Colombo Theological Seminary. His books have been published in 20 languages.
