Happy May Day! We have some May flowers and also some May showers this morning as I get ready to send off my newsletter. Hope you got a May bouquet this morning, wherever you are. This month, I'll be sharing some early reviews, some pictures from my recent travels, and some of my recent reading. The next thirty-one days will be busy with lambing, which should start next week; getting ready for my high school senior's graduation and all the attendant celebrating; finishing up the novel I'm working on so I can send it to my editor on June 1st; and planning for the publication of A Stolen Child on June 20th. So, I'm going to get right to it! Have a wonderful month and I'll see you in June! Sarah |

Our trip to Paris was so magical — we've been back for two weeks and I'm still feeling inspired by all the beauty we saw and most of all, the special time with our friends there and with my own family. We walked an average of ten miles a day, ate the most amazing food, and visited a lot of the well-known spots — the Louvre, the Musée d'Orsay, The Eiffel Tower, Père Lachaise Cemetery, Monet's garden at Giverny — and lesser-known ones too — hidden parks, the Petit Palais Museum, side streets in the 10th arrondissement, where we were staying and where our friends live. It was a wonderful trip and I feel incredibly grateful to have had this time with my family before we become a slightly different configuration next year, when our eldest leaves for college. Thanks to everyone who sent me recommendations for things to do, see, smell, and eat! |

Crime Writer Prom. Poe Prom. Mystery Novelist Oscars. It has many unofficial names, but officially it's the Edgar Allan Poe Awards Ceremony, sponsored each year by the Mystery Writers of America. I made a quick trip down to New York City over the weekend to cheer on friends and colleagues who were nominated for the Edgar Awards. It was great to see people and catch up. You can find a complete list of the winners here! |

This past month, I loved Red Snow, the second Tuva Moodyson mystery by Will Dean and 1979, the first Allie Burns mystery by Val McDermid. I am really loving It. Goes. So. Fast by Mary Louise Kelly and am also reading Barbara Kingsolver's Demon Copperhead (my book group book this month) and November Road by Lou Berney. |

This is, admittedly, a somewhat sad-looking little pastry. It is supposed to be a croissant, but it possessed only a little of the flaky, buttery airiness of the ones we ate in Paris or the ones we get just down the road at King Arthur Flour here in Vermont. And yet, I am proud of my first attempt at making croissants! It was a learning experience and next time I think they'll be much better. Here's the recipe I used. * I recommend really paying attention to temperature as you're baking. Good luck! |
