American Canyon Arts Foundation, September 2019

We're Back!! 2019 Holiday Boutique

After a year off (due to the lack of available space), the Arts Foundation will hold its annual Holiday Crafts Boutique.  This year, thanks to the generosity of Rick Hess, owner of the Canyon Plaza and Canyon Corners Shopping Centers, we will set up shop in the old Umpqua Bank Office at 3417 Broadway/Hwy. 29, Suite J-2.  All the details haven't been worked out yet, but we'll be open between Thanksgiving and Christmas; we'll invite crafters from throughout the area; and of course, we'll have See's Candies for sale!

Contact us if you are a crafter that wants to sell unique, one of a kind items.  We charge a 30% commission on all sales.  For more, email us at info@amcanart.org.

And new for this year--we'll host the Magic of the Season/Marketplace on Friday, December 6, as part of the City's Tree Lighting Ceremony.  In the past, the Chamber of Commerce organized this event, but we're giving them a break this year!

We'll have more info on both of these holiday events in future editions. Or you can check on the latest by going to our website.

Creative Directory & More from ACNV

Back in July, we announced that Arts Council Napa Valley was launching their new Creative Directory.  Two months later, and they're still adding names--you could be one of them!  They already have over 140 entries, from acting and visual artists to musicians and writers.  What's exciting about this new program is you can sign up as a creative, or you can use it as an employer, looking for virtually any type of creative artistic expression.  And it's all free!

If you're interested, click on the logo above and sign up.  Let us know when you're in the directory, and we'll make an announcement on our Facebook page and on our website.

And there's more than just the Creative Directory.  The Arts Council also announced their upcoming State of the Arts, a mini-conference held every two years.  This year it will be held Wednesday, October 16 from 3-7pm, at the Yountville Community Hall, 6516 Washington Street.  General Admission is $20/person, but if you add your profile to the Creative Directory, it's only $5!  Students and Teachers get in for $10.

Chamber's 2nd Annual Great American Canyon Quest

The Chamber started this exciting new event last year and their second quest will be Saturday, October 12, from 9am to 1pm (Awards Ceremony at 2pm).  You should consider signing up a team--the Arts Foundation may be a part of the program! We can't say more, because it's supposed to be a secret!

For more on the event, or to sign up, go to the Chamber's site.

Future Art Shows Planned

After hearing from our members, we are working on more art shows for our artists.  We are planning a Children's Art Show as part of the City's Spring Celebration in March 2020.  We're also making some changes to our annual Art Extravaganza, which will be held the weekend of April 27, 2020.

Beyond art shows, we also have teaching opportunities.  If you're interested, email us at info@amcanart.org

WELCOME CENTER GALLERY

For September, ACAF President and photographer, Patti Krueger, will be our featured artist.  One of the benefits of being a member of ACAF is your opportunity to show your art at the Chamber's Welcome Center.  Hundreds of visitors check in to get directions and learn about the Valley--and your art will be right there!

The Welcome Center is part of the Chamber of Commerce, located at 3860 Broadway (Hwy 29) in American Canyon.

Contact Cherol Ockrassa if you would like your art added to the schedule. Learn more about the program with the button below.

Board of Directors Meeting

A lot of business is conducted during the Board Meetings, and we also spend time planning upcoming events.  Members are always welcomed.  We generally meet the second Tuesday of the month, at the American Canyon Public Library Meeting Room.  Meetings start at 7pm.

In August, we discussed the latest on the Community Mosaic Project, including new workshop dates; we also starting planning for our Holiday Boutique and other holiday craft activities; and discussed future art shows, not only the ongoing Welcome Center Gallery but a Children's Art Show and the annual Art Extravaganza.  On a frustrating note, we heard back from the Post Office--apparently, they can't accept the Foundation's offer to commission a mural on the very white walls of the new Post Office.  We're willing to charge them, if that would help!

You can download and review the Board Agenda or meeting minutes here.
