If a line or phrase from the poem To Thrive by Cathey Capers, PPM resonates with you, we invite you to use it as a starting point to create your own poem. Consider the last stanza: It's like that too. Each of us creatures, capable still, of the smallest gesture of care. We invite you to write about a small gesture of care that you have witnessed, shared or experienced, and we welcome you to share what you write with the IPM community: |

In this newsletter we would like to share our gratitude for all the volunteers and donors, participants and facilitators that help to make The Institute for Poetic Medicine and all of its programs possible. Each day we work toward IPM's Mission to offer tools and support to heal body, mind, and spirit through the creative and therapeutic process of hearing, speaking, and writing poetry. This work is truly only possible because of the support that we as a nonprofit receive from individuals. Together we make this happen. We are sharing a Donor Spotlight in this newsletter that we hope will inspire you too to share your time, treasure and/or talent with IPM. Thank you! Yours in Poetry, Mary Price & Your Friends at IPM . . . . Please join us for one of the events below and experience poetic medicine for yourself! Many of these events are being shared with our community (you!) for free or for a donation of any size. We look forward to sharing the poetry circle with you soon! Our Deep Gratitude Goes Out to Debby M |
|
|
Dear Poetic Medicine Friends, The Institute for Poetic Medicine (IPM) is a community of practice that brings together poetry-as-healer facilitators with underserved communities with the intention and purpose of empowering people to trust and use their creativity through poetry and poem-making. Since 2005, IPM has implemented programs, seminars, trainings, and retreats with their certified facilitators and IPM Poetry Partners serving a diverse group of populations across the US and abroad. These programs produce measurable results, build community, provide publications of marginalized voices, and have literally changed participant’s lives. Recognizing this, a long-time friend and donor, Debby M., recently pledged $50,000 to keep IPM going and growing. As she told IPM’s founder, John Fox: “It is always a joy to hear from you… [I am making] a donation of $50,000 for you to continue with your mission of healing and connection.” Our friend understands the value of IPM’s work and the funds needed to produce high-quality IPM programming. Her gift and yours will allow IPM to: Develop and launch a new cohort of IPM’s signature 3-phase Poetic Medicine Practitioner certification course. We plan to have Phase 1 up and running early in 2025. Continue grant and program development to support and expand the reach of healing poetry circles within hospitals, social service agencies, prisons, schools, colleges, congregations, and many groups with special needs. Continue financial support to Poetry Partners and facilitators who serve approximately 3000 individuals throughout the U.S. and globally each year.
We hope you will follow Debby’s lead and donate as you are able so that IPM’s mission of healing and connection continues. Donate online or by check to: The Institute for Poetic Medicine P. O. Box 60189 Palo Alto, CA 94306 We hope you will also consider: Whether your employer may match donations. We are happy to help you with this. A monthly or other recurring gift to help provide IPM with a sustainable and reliable revenue stream.
Here are some examples of how you can make a difference in someone's life with your generous donation: |

In a political season that signals that all power is found elsewhere and beyond us, it is important for those who care — as citizens, as human beings — to explore opportunities that reclaim significant power by the individual — and by that we mean you. These days, we are sensitive to and aware that goodwill and democracy, facts and honesty, community and individual rights are not abstract considerations. These will be our creative focus during our retreat on November 15 - 17. Poetry and poem-making, creativity — this is our way to be sure that each of our voices are treasured and experienced as essential. We are providing a weekend gathering where we: • invite you into a circle committed to give voice to goodwill and democracy, • offer you the opportunity to tap into your personal agency and power through creativity, • write, listen, and bear witness to ourselves and to one another in an act of community-building as a way to nourish goodwill and democracy. We hope that you are able to join us for this in-person event! |
