Where Am I Landing Next?

Hi Everyone,

“A Place to Land” is an apt title for my exhibition with the Portage Arts Group, a collective of talented artists of faith who are focused on the therapeutic side of art-making. We are all the product of many diverse living environments both physical and relational. Our imagination and creative processes in turn inhabit these living environments. We each have found a place to land, in our subject matter, in our Christian faith and with each other as a support group.

From now until the end of December, our work is on display in the Meridian Community Centre in Fonthill, the same place that hosted the Pelham Art Festival in the spring. Six artists are exhibiting; nine of my pieces are included.

The sunset hues of golden yellow with blue and purple evoke the joy, calm and wonder I felt in Montpellier, Venice and Florence. I was inspired by the colourful houses, magnificent churches and historic buildings. And now in my most recent painting I associate them with a commonplace sight close to home: the arches and pillars of a playground structure.

My work is also at McMaster Innovation Park, and I am looking forward to the opening gala next week for this massive group exhibition featuring 95 local artists. Below you’ll find the details, and a link to see a preview of what is on display.

My two escarpment cliff paintings are near the bottom of the online gallery, probably because my last name starts with “W”!
