Mint Green January

The year started with this little client waving hello at me in the picture. This is Evi and her birthday is on the first day of the year which I always found a very special day to be born on. It makes it so easy to count how old you are! Her mom Anneke arranged Evi's keepsakes to be made way in advance and kept them hidden till the date of the celebration. So it was a lovely surprise to see the picture pop up. Anneke and I will be talking more memory quilts soon because Evi's two brothers will be getting their own keepsakes too.

My 2020 was dedicated to dealing with the huge backlog of orders and I managed! Mariska kicked off 2021 as my first client who I talked to and made the keepsakes right after our virtual meeting. Take a look at how neatly Mariska organized her clothes for me! I crafted a memory quilt and a matching cushion for Mariska's daughter Sanne. We added blush pink and mint green and as you scroll down the newsletter you will notice that January was very mint green month in the atelier.

I still had 3 projects to finish from the last year.  First one was for Tjibbe and his mom Marijn. Memory quilt for the son and fabric painting for the mom. We put 96 of Tjibbe's baby clothing items into his memory quilt. Tjibbe's geboortekaartje was mint green and there was a tiny heart in the middle of it. So, we extended the mint theme into the memory quilt and the fabric painting. We even planted a little heart in the middle of the fabric painting to complete the gentle allusion to his baby days.

Second was for Miranda and her family. We put the clothes of her 3 three babies in this memory quilt and signed every corner of the quilt with a child's name and the date of their birth. We used the fourth corner of the quilt to embroider the date of Miranda's wedding. Here it is, completed with the fresh and soft mint green highlights & reverse side, bright ocean green binding. Miranda won the last share & win contest I held on Facebook when I still had it. Seems like a lifetime ago and surreal that I had it to begin with!

And the last blast from the past project was memory quilt for Liubov and her sons Alësha and Sasha. This is a light, clear memory quilt with only one color added - ice blue. I don't know what laundry detergent Liubov uses, but these clothes smelled crisp & fresh and I kept thinking that the look and the smell here are exactly the same. Crazy, but true!

Thanks for your time!

Back to my needles and scissors. You will hear from me again next month.

Sincerely,

Laura
