April Student-Faculty Lunch |
For the April student-faculty luncheon, Dr. Jamal Lewis gave a brief summary of his lab's work, which focuses on modulating the immune response that can cause certain states of disease. It was a great way to learn about the downfalls of current drugs that generally suppress the immune response and learn more about how to design targeted treatments. A big thank you to the BESA social chairs, Hark and Brent, for organizing the event! |

April Coffee Hour and Panel with BMES |
BESA hosted a coffee hour to field questions from biomedical engineering undergraduate students and had lively discussions that ranged from the steps to get into graduate school to life after undergraduate in general. Thank you to everyone who came out! |

Sutterville Elementary School Science Night |
A group of graduate students made their way out to West Sacramento to make edible alginate gummies with hordes of enthusiastic elementary school students. The kids learned about making hydrogels firsthand and their parents learned to always carry extra napkins to clean up those sticky hands. |

The 2019 BMEGG Student Research Symposium was a success! Thank you to all the students who helped organize the event and the professors and post docs who helped judge. We had a great set of posters and oral presentations, and, for the first time, an industry panel (special thanks to those who helped organize that). Look out for a feedback survey and let us know what you thought. (Photo courtesy of Dr. Volkmar Heinrich) |

UC Davis Biomedical Engineering Design Challenge |
Four teams of students from six surrounding community colleges worked together to brainstorm and engineer a preliminary prototype for this year's design challenge: an adjustable arm sling for children. We saw some excellent prototypes and had great discussions with these students along the way. Huge thanks to the graduate student mentors, the TEAM lab, Dr. Choi, and Dr. Yamada for helping us make this event a success. |
