I am usually an extremely light packer. I often take a carry-on for a two-week trip. However, when we decided to go on a hiking trip, I checked a bag so I could include hiking boots and sneakers as well as my airplane shoes. Since I'd decided to check a bag, I took my son's running shoes and toiletries as well. I even had new luggage to pack everything in. You can probably tell where this story is going. |

I arrived in Zagreb on time, but my luggage did not. Fortunately, had slipped a pair of yoga pants and a tee shirt into my carry-on backpack. Turns out I needed that outfit. For four long days of hiking. A couple of women on the trip shared detergent with me so I could wash my clothes in the sink each night. They usually dried by the time I put them on in the morning. The dress I wore on the plane showed up at dinner but was inappropriate for the daytime hikes. The most amazing thing ended up being the shoes I wore on the plane. I bought a pair of Tevas after my friend Jocelyn recommended them (more on Jocelyn below). These shoes were so comfortable I was able to hike in them every day.
