2024 SUMMER RECAP

STEMulating Summer 4.0 Initiative

UL Lafayette's Center for Excellence in Education and its Region 4 STEM Network Center hosted a series of impactful STEM camps as part of its STEMulating Summer Initiative 4.0. From the STEM Olympics Camp, where 6th-8th graders tackled activities like Bridge Building and Robot Coding, to the Aeromodelling 101 Wing Camp, where 8th-12th grade female students built remote-controlled airplanes, the camps fostered practical STEM applications. Additionally, camps like the Renewable Energy+ Camp and the NASA Astro Camp engaged students with renewable energy concepts and space exploration activities, respectively, enhancing their scientific understanding and critical thinking skills. About 800 students were impacted during this summer's initiative.

STEM Leadership Cohort II Learning Series

In partnership with the National Math and Science Initiative(NMSI) and the Louisiana Department of Education(LDOE), the Region 4 STEM Network Center concluded the STEM Leadership Cohort Series. This was a comprehensive learning series that prepared Educators to lead local STEM initiatives and professional development opportunities. Cohort I consisted of  about 15 STEM Teacher Leaders Advisers meeting virtually over the course of 5 months. Cohort II was developed from two sessions at the 2024 Teacher Leader Summit, and comprising about 25 educators gathering for a 2-day in person meeting. Both Cohorts were tasked with creating an action plan that addressed a real-world education issue specific to their school community with innovative solutions. The goal of this Cohort was to improve STEM outcomes for all Louisiana students.
