Cinnamon enjoying a beautiful summer day.

Hello Friends!

Welcome to our first issue of Cinnamon’s House Animal Sanctuary Newsletter.

At last, I have followed my dream to fill my home with animals! As a lover of animals, I began fostering dogs in 2012. It was not long that I noticed I seemed to favor the seniors and those that needed special care. Luckily my husband shares in my passion, so this year we founded Cinnamon’s House Animal Sanctuary. Cinnamon’s House is a 501c3, non-profit, located in West Kingston, RI. Our mission is to provide a sanctuary for animals considered un-adoptable due to their age or disability. We provide a personalized and safe home for each resident to thrive. We provide all the food, treats, beds, toys, medications, and vet care they need… and, of course, all the love they can handle.

Rosco

Rosco chillin' out at the office.

We welcomed our first resident, Rosco, in May, 2023. Rosco is a 14 yr. old lab mix who had lived with the same family since he was a puppy. Over the last few years, the family had broken up and moved several times and they just could not care for him anymore. They did not want to put him in a traditional shelter because they knew he would be likely not be considered for adoption. Cinnamon’s House was thrilled to welcome him! We immediately took him to Southern Rhode Island Animal Hospital and had him examined. The poor boy was underweight at 48 lbs., was severely depressed and had several rotten teeth. We were thrilled to find out he was heart worm negative, although we did have to treat him for internal parasites, so now have him on a monthly heart worm preventative medication. With help of your donations, we recently were able to have his teeth cared for. But while preparing him for surgery, we learned Rosco has a heart murmur. So, we added heart medication to his daily regime. Rosco has been with us five months now and is doing amazing! He now weighs in at 56 lbs. and thanks to his arthritis medications, he’s running and playing with the other dogs. We hope he has many more years to give us!

Lincoln

On October 5th, we welcomed our newest arrival, a Chihuahua mix who we named, Lincoln. At about 5 years old, a young one for us, he weighed in at 12 lbs. Lincoln found himself lost in Lincoln, RI with a severe injury. It is unknown what actually happened to him. Perhaps he got stuck under a fence or was bit attacked by another animal, but he had lost a lot of skin on his back end. Luckily the Lincoln, RI Animal Control Officer was summoned and she brought him to Ocean State Veterinary Hospital. He received urgent care and was discharged with lots of medication and care instructions. We found him sitting in a kennel at the Lincoln, RI Animal Shelter petrified and surrounded by barking dogs. We knew immediately we needed to bring him home and help him heal.

We took Lincoln directly to Southern RI Animal Hospital for evaluation as he was still in rough shape. His injury was not healing. Dr. Dana sedated him to clean his wound and gave him a few stitches. She prescribed antibiotics, pain medication and instructed us to keep KY on his wound every day to keep it moist. She also informed us that tiny dogs love hot dogs. So, off we dutifully went to purchase hot dogs and KY on the way home… boy, did Patrick and I get a laugh once we got to the checkout counter.

Lincoln is doing fabulous. His wound is healing, eating well and beginning to show us some love. We get kisses, on his terms of course. Lincoln still has a long road ahead of him, but we just know he will be a wonderful dog.

We are so excited for Cinnamon’s House Animal Sanctuary to continue to take in these animals that need us and watch them prosper.

We are so grateful for all your support!

Thank you!

Marilyn & Patrick
