Join us for an event that will explore how animals are represented in popular culture including film, books, and art.  Such representations are often speciesed and hold great sway upon our political and moral imaginations.

We will kick off the event showing a short video, titled: “Animalized Hierarchies in Popular Contagion Films.” This will lead to an open-ended exchange about animals, media, ethics, and the intersections of speciesism with other forms of oppression. Claudia Hirtenfelder, creator of The Animal Turn, will moderate a discussion by: Tobias Linné of Lund University, Sweden; Claire Parkinson of Edge Hill University, UK; and Susan McHugh of University of New England, USA. It promises to be a fascinating discussion which explores a range of questions related to human anxieties and ethical questions about how we relate to other animals.
