Hi
They say there are three stages to travelling.
Anticipating the journey can feel almost as sweet as the journey itself. Counting down the days is delicious agony as you dream of where you will be in a year, a month, a week, tomorrow. And suddenly you're in a rush and on your way!
“Anticipation. In love and travel, getting there is half the fun. The lustful impatience, the passionate daydreams, the nerve-wracking waiting... lovers and travellers are all alike when they find themselves on the brink of a new adventure." Vivian Swift
Experiencing the journey is never as anticipated. The fantasy in your imagination is quickly replaced by an in-your-face, all-senses, sometimes primal experience. Things will happen – good and bad – that will test any firm plan you have; someone will recommend an amazing ride you simply must do, the weather will be extreme, you will meet a fellow-rider who will invite you to ride or stay with them, you will become exhausted, sick or injured and need to rest and recuperate, your motorbike or gear will need repair or replacement or you will fall in love with a beautiful place that you just can’t bear to leave quite yet. These are the joys of touring.
"One's destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things." Henry Miller
Reminiscing fills your soul with warm memories, memories you can draw upon again and again, especially in the company of friends. Surely, this must be one of life's greatest pleasures.
"So much of who we are is where we have been." William Langewiesche
As we continue to navigate these strange times, what do you love most about touring?
