Vol. 1: Issue 10

The Kailee Mills Foundation informs the public on the importance of seat belt use while encouraging and inspiring communities to protect themselves and their passengers by always wearing their seat belts.

Back to School

The time is upon us, wonderful readers. Whether you are heading back to school, your child is, or you just get to be the lucky driver stuck behind a school bus on your way to work, that seat belt is going to be a handy riding companion. Be faithful to your seat belt. It will always be there for you if you just remember to wrap yourself in it's love and protection.

Remind your children before your vehicle is in motion or before you send them off in a carpool. Remind your teenagers with a sticky note on their phone or driver's side window. Call your college kid up to remind them that it gets crazy out there on the road in college towns and to do everything to protect themselves on the road. To the non-students sitting in the added traffic to your daily routine: Buckle Up! Finally, bus drivers making sure the students are getting to school or home safely, make sure you are wearing that seat belt too!

Pretty soon there's going to be football games, late night study sessions, dances, and parties. Be responsible in every way possible. Get home safe. If you have to catch a ride, do not let your guard down. You need that seat belt in the passenger side as well as in the back seat. Remember Kailee every time you become a passenger. You may not be in control of the vehicle, but you are in control of wearing your seat belt. That choice may be the one choice that saves your life.

For those of you that didn't know, Kailee was the mascot for Schindewolf Intermediate School in Spring, Texas. Before that, she was a cheerleader. She was an avid football fan and supported several schools in the Klein District by attending as many games as she could throughout her life. She would have been at every Aggie home game once she started her college life at Texas A&M University.

Below is a video of Kailee at a cheer camp her first year of being a mascot. She was barely 13 years old at this camp which was held August of 2014. The quality of the video is not the best, but she is the mascot that is doing the pump it up at the beginning in the black and gray costume. She definitely shined with her always big personality. Thank you Sideline Spirit for posting this all those years ago for us to cherish now.

Kailee's Angels

Traveling down curvy country roads can be relaxing. Unfortunately, it can also make you drop your guard: out in the middle of nowhere, no other cars; you feel safe. October 25, 2016 was a normal Tuesday. Katlyn Nicole Fowler, also known as "Kadi Bug", got up for school, attended class, and went to hang out with a few friends after school. She was halfway to becoming 18 years old. Just before 8:30pm, her and two of her friends were traveling down one of those country roads, no doubt enjoying music and laughter, when the driver took a curve too quickly and went off the road. The vehicle struck a tree and caught fire. Katlyn and one of her friends was not wearing their seat belt and both were ejected and killed on impact. The driver was wearing her seat belt and survived with minor cuts and bruises. Katlyn was less than a mile from home and was not wearing her seat belt because they were just around the corner. That false sense of security: I'm down the street, or we are just going a few minutes away. ALWAYS wear your seat belt no matter how close you are to your destination.  Katlyn never got to walk the stage at her high school graduation. Her family will never see her get married.

Don't let this easily preventable mistake be the one you don't get to learn from.

Don't let your mistake be the one others have to learn from.
