Cycles, Circles & Seasons

Winter Solstice, "the longest night" or the first day of winter, signifies the beginning of the Sun's return. We're entering a new cycle and days are growing longer! To balance the deepness and darkness of winter, the Solstice offers a glimmer of light.

Wreath-making in Ocean View

Earlier this month, Root & Rise's "Nature & Art as Therapy" hosted a small group to craft wreaths from natural, local material.

Discussion about social and emotional health were woven throughout the session. Leftover material was used for our donation-based wreath-making table at the Ocean View Swap Meet the following day.

Aside from the typical association with Christmas and winter, wreaths serve as a symbol of unity, welcoming, and cycles.

Where do you witness cyclical or circular nature?

Maybe your moods or energy levels move with rhythm and connectivity. Or you notice the fullness of the moon, a ripple in the water, or the pattern in the tree canopy. Or perhaps you see the shape in your relationships, as you gather around the dinner table or fire.

Acknowledgement of cycles helps us understand and accept the natural flows in life, bringing us a greater sense of peace and steadiness.
