Newsletter: December 15, 2021

2021 was quite the year! We launched and grew as we created a grassroots campaign for women’s rights heading into the recent Canadian election. Today we have more than 1000 Twitter followers, are meeting like-minded women, and putting together events such as postcard campaigns and pop-up FYIs that are being replicated in different parts of our country. We look forward to 2022 - we have a lot of work ahead of us! 

New Parliamentary Session

The speech from the Throne included an outline of several issues that affect females. In particular: tackling violence against women; missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls and; criminal justice reforms. Women Matter Canada sent a response to Minister of Women and Gender Equality ("WAGE") Marci Ien; MP Vecchio (WAGE Shadow Minister); MP Vien (WAGE Associate Shadow Minister); MP Leah Gazan (NDP WAGE critic). Current Federal Bills

The following Bills affecting women are currently going through the Senate and/or House of Commons:

• S-205: An Act to amend the Criminal Code and to make consequential amendments to another Act (interim release and domestic violence recognizance orders)

• S-218: An Act to amend the Department for Women and Gender Equality Act
