Summer 2021 Newsletter

#CommunityIsHealing

Dear Friends,

After more than a year of being "together apart," we are so glad to have hosted in person Fitness Force and Courage Club events this month. We are excitedly, and carefully, moving back to our regular monthly gatherings as disease spread continues to fall and vaccinations continue to rise. It's an exciting time and we are SO grateful to be back together.

Our Virtual Gala and the conclusion of our Community Ambassador Campaign came in April- resulting in over $23,000 raised to support young adults impacted by cancer in and around Charleston. We are grateful for your support throughout a difficult year. It's allowed us to continue and increase our programs and services.

Thank you for continuing to demonstrate that Community is Healing!

COURAGE CLUB

After month and months of virtual and drive thru events, we were SO excited to gather IN PERSON for an outdoor Courage Club Happy Hour this month. We plan to meet outdoors for our events for the next few months, but are so grateful for the chance to be together!

While at happy hour, we had the chance to recognize our Courage Club Award recipients.

Fitness Force!

We're getting back to in person workouts! We eased into a walk/run at the bridge this month (it was rainy!) and plan to meet up again in July. More fun (and unusual) workouts are planned for August and September. Details coming in our Facebook group. If you'd like to get involved in Fitness Force as a cancer survivor or supporter, please email Katherine@boonproject.org.

Melissa Legare Brown Scholarship

The Melissa Legare Brown Scholarship is awarded annually to a young person impacted by young adult cancer (either their own or a caregivers). It is in memory  of our dear friend Melissa Legare Brown and given in partnership with her family who so graciously choose to honor her memory by supporting our organization.

The 2021 Melissa Legare Brown Scholarship recipient is Miss Emma Black, a student at Clemson University and a graduate of First Baptist School in Charleston where Mrs. Legare Brown was her teacher. Emma lost her mother to cancer when she was a senior in high school. We know her mom and Melissa would be so very proud of her!
