Dear Friends,

I'm so glad to share my latest art news with you.  I haven't written since last December, and now just in the nick of time to invite local friends to my Opening Reception happening in less than 24 hours--on Friday March 18th!  Not only will you see some colorful art paired with fresh flowers, but my new grant-funded solo studio space is open for visits in the same building as the reception.

These last many months have been a time of significant deconstructing for me aptly expressed by my completely demolished kitchen, awaiting rebuild.  I currently have no cabinets, sink or floor. My refrigerator is in the office and kitchen table in the living room.  But life goes on with trust and hopes for what is to come.

Here's to surviving and also holding possibilities for thriving as we move forward during these times.

Colors of Spring

March 18, 2022 - April 18, 2022

(I have 8 basketry pieces in the show)

It's an honor to be invited to celebrate the coming of Spring.  Three artists share colorful work combining paintings by Susan Costello Sepulveda and Daniel Benedum, and traditional and sculptural basketry by Martha Bird.  Martha's pieces will be complemented with real flower displays.  Should be a beautiful, colorful and uplifting display!

In addition, if you'd like to visit my new grant funded  studio space at any time during the exhibit contact me to set up a time!

You are Invited to join me!

Opening Reception: Friday March 18, 2022; 5-8 pm

Location: ArT @ 967 Payne

967 Payne Avenue East, St. Paul, MN

Spacious setting with doors open to the outside.

And to double your fun, walk down the street to join current Second Shift Studio artist resident Roshan Ganu at her participatory Holi: Festival of Colours from 4 - 7 pm on March 18th. Holi

Phipps Center for the Arts

Body Fragmented

Looking back, it was fun to exhibit with Naomi Hart--who includes hearts in her art.  And me Martha Bird--who includes weaving-like-nests in my art.  Interesting too that our artist statements held such similarities: hers referencing addiction, domestic violence and mental health recovery and mine trauma and resilience.

If you missed the exhibit, enjoy the video walk through!

"I constructed [this] from 4 different modified straight photographs plus one portion that I created.  This image has won awards in two competitions in February.  There is a photographic image category that is called Altered Reality where obvious manipulations are expected.  So it is an Altered Reality digital image."  Rick Graves

Beautiful work Rick!!

Thanks for including the Dancing Willow collaboration!!

"Have your blacksmith make you one"

In February 2022, blacksmith Ms. Caitlin publishes a blog about my request for a hand made rapping iron tool for willow while I was at John C. Campbell Folk School.  For future work, I now have my own!
