you gotstarted!

how grows it, starters?

Mother Nature's been all over the board (high temps, low temps, ash, oh my!), and some of you have emailed to ask how to encourage more growth, while others with multiple starts in cells have been asking about whether or not to thin. Bottom line: It’s all good.

Know that we appreciate each and every one of you, and we’ve got plenty of backup starts to ensure recipients will get full 6-pack flats. Meanwhile, everyone’s kits should be in the sunshine, and kept watered so they can keep growing!

thinning your starts

For those of you who have starts coming up in all cells, and two to three sets of leaves, it’s time to thin. Thinning is done to increase odds of successful growing for the strongest plant. Here’s a video from Petaluma Bounty’s director Suzi Grady with helpful tips. Spoiler alert: Be ruthless!

drop off day details

Next Sunday, September 6 is Drop Off Day at Petaluma Bounty! And we’ve got a couple of options for you.

Since that day from 9am-3pm is Petaluma Bounty’s inaugural Fall Plant Sale, we encourage you to go and buy plants for your gardens, while dropping off your Starts at the same time. To do so, you’ll need to sign up for a time slot here: https://www.petalumabounty.org/first-annual-fall-plant-sale-2/

OR If you don’t plan on attending the Fall Plant Sale, please drop off your Starts that day from 3:30-5pm.

Can’t wait to see you... and your starts!

show us your progress!

We love your pics! Keep posting your practices and progress—and you!—on Instagram and don’t forget to tag us @getstarted.garden.

We love the way this Starter keeps track of what she’s planted—plastic silverware handles— so clever!

thanks for helping us grow

Programs like getstarted require green, as in the paper kind. To that end, after you drop off your starts, we’ll be sending you some questions via an online survey.

Thanks in advance for your willingness to participate so we can gather valuable data for future funding. All responses will be anonymous.

Together, let’s continue getstarted, here in Petaluma and beyond!
