Please forward to friends who care about our working waterfront

Sausalito Working Waterfront Coalition

Everywhere you look in our working waterfront, exciting things are happening!

This egret and this great blue heron stand watch after hours at the Army Corp Dock.

Nunes Brothers Boats

In 1925, the Nunes Bros, from the Azores, took over the Reliance Boat and Ways Company at Second and Main and over the next 35 years they designed and built a great variety of vessels. Here, shipwrights at Richardson Bay Boatworks care for some "survivors". Above is a 1950s era boat converted to a floating home. Below is a 1920s era power boat. This important work keeps part of Sausalito's historical heritage alive.

Dr. Sylvia Earle and Liz Taylor

SWWC Guest Speakers at The Pines

In June the Marinship documentary was screened at The Pines in Sausalito. Our guest speakers were Dr. Sylvia Earle, marine biologist, oceanographer, explorer, author and lecturer, and Liz Taylor, President of Deep Ocean Exploration and Research (DOER).

Several days later Liz hosted a group from SWWC for a tour of their operation in Alameda.

Liz was among those in the submersible community that warned Ocean Gate about it's very risky carbon fiber construction technique that resulted in its catastrophic failure resulting in five deaths. It was a submersible, originally manufactured at DOER in Alameda that identified the location of the Ocean Gate Titan submersible wreckage.

Summer at Sausalito's Working Waterfront

Several big re-power projects at Bayside Boatworks. Sausalito's working waterfront includes shops with the skills and experience to install new marine engines.

Families enjoy great music, boat rides (including the traditional reed boat built at Galilee...learn more here.) and crafts during Maritime Day at Galilee Harbor. Anton demonstrates caulking wooden boat planks!

Sausalito Sea Lion is ready and waiting for its new perch at our downtown waterfront!

Old school and new school technology. Spaulding keeps them afloat!

Rest in Peace Susie Shea

Susan Shea enjoying Sausalito's waterfront. Susie was a long-time advocate for the Marinship and supporter of the Sausalito Working Waterfront Coalition. Susie was a warrior for her many non-profit causes and a supporter of Marin City and Sausalito. She passed on June 23. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Susie's family and longtime partner, Sonja Hanson.

Stay Alert

Sausalito’s Working Waterfront Coalition advocates for the maritime workers, artists, industrial fabricators, and educators in the Marinship District that helps make our city special.

The Marinship District represents our cultural heritage. The District’s economic engine generates good jobs, valuable tax revenue, cutting-edge innovation and unique educational opportunities.

Sausalito needs a vibrant workforce to grow our working waterfront to include the new blue ocean economy. We welcome these new maritime services and technologies to the Marinship.

But we need to STAY ALERT because many outside developers and some local politicians have a very different vision for Sausalito’s working waterfront. We see a dynamic maritime innovation hub, they see another Newport Beach.
