Y4A will be at the Amputee Coalition Conference this Summer! |
The Amputee Coalition holds an annual national conference for amputees to learn more about current information and research affecting amputees, meet with prosthetists and others supporting amputees, and attend clinics designed to help amputees experience adaptive physical sports and activities. Y4A Yoga for Amputees has been a part of this annual conference for many years, beginning with Marsha Danzig, founder of Y4A Yoga for Amputees, leading the morning Yoga Clinics for several years, and Lucy teaching last year’s Yoga Clinics. |
This year the conference will be in Orlando, FL, and Heather will be teaching the morning Yoga Clinics and adding two additional evening classes for movement and relaxation. If you are attending the conference, be sure to sign up for morning clinics, evening yoga classes, or both. Y4A is grateful to be able to continue collaborating with the Amputee Coalition to teach yoga at its conferences. Y4A also donates a portion of every Y4A training to the Amputee Coalition to support its work assisting those with limb loss, limb difference, or limb limitation. |
Heather Thamer will be offering a 2½ hour hybrid (simultaneous in-studio and live streaming) workshop, “Teaching Yoga for Limb Loss, Limb Difference or Limb Limitation.” through the Yoga Center of Columbia, MD, on July 29, 2023, from 1-3:30pm, cost $35. In this workshop, types of amputations and prostheses will be discussed, as well as supportive breathing practices. Specific poses will be adapted for both lower limb and upper limb loss, difference, or limitation. The workshop will be appropriate for yoga teachers and yoga therapists, medical professionals and therapists who support amputees, e.g., physical therapists, occupational therapists, and recreational therapists, and amputees with at least 3 months experience doing yoga. The workshop will count as continuing education for yoga teachers registered with Yoga Alliance. Registration will be open after June 16th at the Yoga Center of Columbia, MD. |

Coming this Fall: Next Y4A Teacher Training! |
The next comprehensive online eight-week Y4A teacher training will run from October 12- December 7, 2023. This teacher training will be appropriate for yoga teachers, yoga therapists, and professionals working with those with limb loss, limb difference, or limb limitation. Carrying on the Y4A training program developed by founder Marsha Danzig, Lucy and Heather led the first online Y4A Teacher Training this past winter. That training included an experienced group of yoga teachers, prosthetists, and physiotherapists from the US and as far away as Canada, Spain, and Australia. Look for them to be teaching Y4A classes in your area soon! Although registration is not yet open for the Fall 2023 training, below is a link to the course description. Also, Y4A is grateful to the Yoga Alliance Foundation for setting up our scholarship fund so that assistance is available for those who might need it. |
