Dear Faithful Supporters of Shield City,

Shield City has won a major philanthropy award!! That’s right: director Laura Sharpe was presented with the Best Philanthropist Award 2024 at the Kano State Football Association ceremony last weekend. The trophy was awarded for Shield’s diligent work in helping its 27 football athletes start small businesses, which have in turn provided new income for the athletes’ families. Read more below!

In other news, we need knitters! We are starting a team of knitters to knit 100% Oregon wool into thick beanies and scarves to sell this fall as a fundraiser. See more details on our Knit for Nigeria project below.

Thank you so much for all that you are doing each day to make the work here in Northern Nigeria possible.  Your donations are changing lives and making a difference each day.

Best,

Director Laura Sharpe

Now Selling Cloth Diapers in the SC Lobby at Reduced Cost

We’ve just partnered up with an amazing woman-led business in the next city that makes cloth diapers and pads, called “Pad-Up.”  Our mothers really need reusable pads and diapers as it saves them so much of their little money. Many of our students are never able to go without diapers, some even into their grown years. $20 USD buys 28 cloth diapers.
