Swiss Park President's Message

Dear Fellow Swiss,

As President of Swiss Park, Inc. I would like to wish all the Swiss in Southern California a healthy and happy holiday season.  It is a time to reflect back on surviving yet another pandemic year and looking with hope towards the next year.

Due to the Covid situation many of our Swiss activities and events could not be held this year, or were greatly scaled back.  We are working on ways we can come together, including hosting the Harmonie Christmas Concert coming up on Dec 12.  We have also greatly expanded our on-line presence with our revamped Website and our Facebook pages, so please connect with us on-line.

The most important part of our new website is to expand our communication to our community.  You can find contacts and the latest info from all the local Swiss societies there.  The “Swiss Connex” forum of the website is a place where one can, for example, ask questions, share recipes, favorite hikes, or anything that might be of interest to other local Swiss.  The relaunched Facebook page (SoCal Swiss Park) is where we are featuring the latest news of events within the Swiss community in Southern California or items of interest from Switzerland.  With your help and  engagement from the local Swiss, it can grow into a resource for the community.  I invite you to look at these resources and provide feedback, or volunteer your time, to help make the social media a resource that can reach the interests and needs of the Southern California Swiss community.  You will find the links at the beginning of this newsletter to access our social media.

Thank you for being a part of the SoCal Swiss Community.  Please be careful -- stay healthy and well.  We look forward to seeing you in person in the New Year.

News from the Swiss Athletic Society

In July, our Athletic Society participated in the Eidgenossische Schuetzenfest Auslandschweizerwettkampf – Gewehr 300m.  It was to have taken place last year in Luzern and our shooters were looking forward to traveling to Switzerland to compete.  In order to hold the competition and be Covid safe, everyone shot at their home shooting grounds.  Our Society placed 2nd out of 14 Societies who participated.  The participants were from Switzerland to South Africa.  Congratulations to the men and women who participated.  All Los Angeles Swiss Athletic Society members scored in the top 122 of 188 participants.  A special mention goes to Edward Hotz, Antonio Luisoni and Richard Wismer who all scored in the top 20!
