Our Newsletter - November 1, 2019

It’s November, the month when the clocks "go back" and the sun sets before dinner time. The days of November can be cloudy and dark in Rochester, so be sure to step outside whenever you see that sun shining through the clouds.

Our November calendar is full of fun classes and activities. You can make an infinity scarf, meditation or prayer beads and learn to mend those clothes.

On the 16th we have another “Market Bagathon” from 1-4 where you can stop in and make a market bag for free using our fabric and sewing machines.

On November 23rd SewGreen will be at the Rochester Maker Fair at the Riverside Convention center from 9AM to 5PM.

The day after Thanksgiving may be called “Black Friday” but at SewGreen we call it “Green Friday”. Stop in for snacks and crafts where you can make gifts from rescued items. We have stations for creating a craft that suits your skills.

Check out the November calendar and the course descriptions for all the details.

Follow us on Instagram and Facebook. Our Pop-Up Sales and Saturday specials are announced there, as well as closures caused by weather and reminders of special events and upcoming classes. Our weekly sales are announced on our website.

It must be Yarn Season

SewGreen has a lot of Lace Weight Yarn, and this week it is on sale! If you purchase one skein of Lace Weight Yarn you get a second skein of Lace Weight yarn of equal or lesser value for free.

We have received a few generous donation of yarn. Choose from Worsted, sock, lace, alpaca, merino, cotton and silk, oh my!  Yarns as colorful and plentiful as the Fall leaves outdoors!

Learning to Sew

Look at all the happy faces showing off their first sewing projects. Knowing how to sew is quite rewarding and has many benefits. Not only does it improve eye-hand coordination, it is also reduces stress as you focus on your project and not the other things on your mind that might be worrying you. Sewing promotes brain growth in that it requires you to be creative and problem solve. The pictures below show just a few of the many people that join us on Saturday morning for our free Family Sewing Club and others that learn to sew in our Sewing 101 class.  Georgia offers this very popular class every month. Check our our November calendar on our website for the next scheduled class.

All Skill Levels are Welcome here

When we say 'Everyone is Welcome at SewGreen Rochester' we mean it. No matter your skill level everyone encouraged to share and learn at SewGreen. Here are a couple of projects our community members are proud to show us.

Diane is preparing to welcome a new grandchild, her first! Look at those adorable little beanies! Diane love to knit and has created many beautiful items using yarn she has purchased at SewGreen. She also donates to us.

This young lady is learning to work with yarn by learning to weave with a needle and a cardboard weaving loom. Weaving is a great place to start learning to sew and work with tools. A piece of cardboard is a loom!
