September Windsor Garden News

Great Pumpkin Season is Almost Upon Us!

It's that time of year: time to get your Succulent Pumpkin(s). This year, Windsor Garden Club will hold one succulent pumpkin building workshop on Saturday, Oct. 21. Tickets are $35 for WGC members, $50 for non-members. Class size is limited to 20.

Ticket pays for one pumpkin, plus all succulents and embellishment items (acorns, rose hips, berries, etc.). The workshop starts with a design demonstration.

Then pick a pumpkin that calls to you, and decorate away! WGC will have experienced decorators on hand to help you. The location for the workshop will be outdoors, in the garden of WGC founder and longtime leader Cindy Fenton, and will be emailed to you upon ticket purchase.

Finishing Touches Finished
at Town Green Community Garden

A big THANK YOU to the volunteers who attached the 72 wood number plaques on the raised beds in the Town Green Community Garden Sept. 9! Pictured are volunteers Tom Van Camp, Lorenzo Rivera, Paul Mainwaring, and Woodworker Craig Erikson and his wife. Not pictured is Kathy Matonak - who found Craig! Now all 72 beds are complete!

NEW! Made to Order Succulent Pumpkins

WGC will create a limited number of succulent pumpkins as special "batch" orders for businesses and other customers. Minimum special order is 10 medium pumpkins at $35 each, for a total of $350.

Email  officers@windsorgardenclub.org before Oct. 1 to ask about bulk orders.

WGC's Succulent Pumpkin workshop and sales are the big annual fundraiser for the nonprofit club. Proceeds help pay for the cost of operating the Town Green Community Garden, as well as garden and education projects around Windsor.

Next Open Garden Set for October 28

The Town Green Community Garden was sparkling in August for the summer TGCG Open House event. Roughly 40 garden lovers wandered the garden and the next-door Community Pollinator Habitat Garden August 19.

Master Gardener Mary Mariani answered questions on plant particulars in the community garden, as did Cindy Fenton and Jill Plamann in the Pollinator Habitat Garden.

Jeanne Knapp, WGC Education Coordinator, had a free herbal sachet creation activity on hand for kids and visitors, and the Town of Windsor gave away water conservation resources and supplies.

Be sure and join us for our next seasonal (Fall) Open Garden on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Also on Saturday, Oct. 28:
Windsor Dia de Muertos on the Green!

The Latino cultural arts and heritage organization Somos Windsor is putting on the 12th Annual Windsor Dia de Muertos celebration on the Town Green from 4 - 8 p.m. Saturday Oct. 28. The free family-friendly event honors family and ancestors now among Los Muertos - The Dead. Enjoy performances by local youth orchestras and dancers, a blessing dance ceremony by local Aztec dancers, children's activities and face painting, a Lowrider car show, Latino food vendors, and a local artisan's craft market. Be sure to get there early if you want to buy a bouquet of the best looking Marigolds you've ever seen!

Holiday Wreath Workshop is December 2

Mark your calendar! WGC's popular Holiday Wreath Making workshop is set for Saturday, Dec. 2, from 1-2:30 p.m. Ticket price will be $30 for WGC members, $45 for non-members. Space is limited to 22 people, and tickets will be available on the WGC website Nov. 1, and also via the WGC enewsletter the first week of November.

Ticket price includes materials: wire frame for wreath, a variety of evergreens and other greens, floral wire, tape, plus all embellishments (rose hips, berries, pine cones, and more). Participants are ask to bring wired fabric ribbon or bows in colors of their own preference if so desired (Burlap? Red? Plaid? You decide!) and if able cuttings from their own gardens for their personal use, or or to share. Neither items are required.

Location is indoors in Windsor and will be emailed to participants upon ticket purchase.

We are very happy that once again floral designer Mary Robledo will be the workshop instructor! Mary will open the workshop with a wreath creation lesson and live demonstration. Participants can then pick their materials and Mary and other veteran wreath-makers from WGC will be available to help you create your own spectacular holiday wreath!
