Today we celebrate The Presentation of Christ in the Temple. The child who had been manifested to the magi at his birth is recognised by Simeon and Anna as ‘a light to lighten the gentiles’ and ‘the glory of God’s people Israel’. But the redemption he will bring must be won through suffering; Simeon’s final words - heard in our Gospel reading - move our attention towards the mysteries of Easter. |

A WARM WELCOME and thanks to Deacon Leigh Daynes of the parish of Becontree South (St Alban, St Martin and St John), our preacher and deacon today. We also warmly welcome Fr Pavlo who is currently staying with Fr Leigh having recently left Ukraine. Fr Pavlo is a priest in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. |

CANDLEMAS Today we celebrate Candlemas - the Feast of The Presentation of Christ in Temple - when Simeon and Anna recognised Jesus as the long-awaited Messiah. As is our tradition, we are asking for donations towards the cost of items such as wafers, incense, wine and candles for our worship. Please donate if you can: online at https://givi.ng/0av0, by using the card machine in church (selecting ‘Candlemas’ on the screen) or by cheque made payable to ‘St Mary’s Ilford PCC’ and sent to The Vicarage, 26 South Park Road, Ilford, IG1 1SS, with a note saying, ‘Candlemas gifts’. Thank you in advance. |
WEEKLY SERVICES Until further notice for a short time, Mass during the week will be on Tuesday and Thursday at 10am (9.30am for Adoration) only and there will be no public Evening Prayer on Sunday. |
JOYCE HINDS Joyce’s Funeral Requiem will take place here at 11.30am on Monday 6 February, followed by committal at Forest Park. Please keep Joyce and her family in your prayers at this time. |
REGULAR GIVING We rely on the people who worship at St Mary’s to cover the costs associated with our church. Financial giving to fund the ministry of the Church is part of being a Christian and an essential part of our commitment to our faith. Please, if you don’t already, would you consider giving a regular amount each month? We are really struggling to make ends meet! No amount is too small. Using our parish giving plan is easy and you are in full control (and Margaret Quinney will be pleased to help you if needed). |

A NOTE FROM THE KING! In response to our sending condolences and a copy of the memorial book for our late Queen, HM King Charles III has sent a card to ‘The Parishioners of Great Ilford and Clergy’ thanking us for our ‘wonderfully generous message’. The card is on the cenotaph altar: Please do look, but take care when handling it! |
