Note from the Director

July 2022

by Patricia Cream

Can you believe it’s July? Wow—six months down and six to go in 2022!

We are honored to have the Yucca Branch, National League of American Pen Women in our guest salon. The organization was founded by three professional women journalists in 1897 with the purpose of supporting and promoting professional women in arts, letters, music, and allied professions. Typically, members are artists, illustrators, poets, sculptors, and writers from across the country. Some well-known members were Pearl Buck, Georgia O’Keefe, Grandma Moses, and Eleanor Roosevelt

Our July Featured Artist is Jeff Warren. One of his favorite quotes is “Art is everything—but not everything is art." I think Jeff is the perfect Featured Artist to pair with the American Pen Women as he is the male counterpart. He is an artist, writer, actor/singer, director, and set designer. He is often asked what style he paints. “Well, I think I employ a number of approaches, but I suppose if pressed to describe my work, I would say romantic realism.” He also paints surrealism and still life, leaning toward the fanciful and dramatic. Jeff is an outstanding artist, and we are blessed to have him as a member of the gallery.

The opening night reception will be on July 1, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. This is a unique opportunity to meet artists who are talented in a variety of genres. Refreshments will be provided.

Carla Forrest

The 20th Anniversary Exhibition

Gallery  with a Cause

As a prior exhibition award winner, Carla Forrest has been invited to show 17 landscape, skyscape, and floral paintings in the 20th Anniversary Exhibition at Gallery with A Cause, which will coincide with other events celebrating the 20 year anniversary of the New Mexico Cancer Center Foundation. The exhibition will run from August 22nd through November 18th. The opening reception will be First Friday ARTScrawl, September 2nd from 6:00 to 8:30 pm.

The purpose of the gallery is two-fold: The NMCC founders strongly believe that the healing and uplifting attributes of original art improve patients’ healing and staff morale. In addition, 40% of each art sale goes directly to the Foundation, which raises funds to alleviate non-medical needs for cancer patients, and is tax-deductible.

Show up, show up, show up, and after a while the muse shows up, too. If she doesn’t show up invited, eventually she just shows up.
