Tomato Daily ½ Acre Newsletter Vol. 6

Hello everyone and happy Wednesday evening!

First things first - take this as a gentle reminder to get your orders in for tomorrow by midnight TONIGHT!!

So I know we've all been struggling with the smoke but it has been especially tough for us the last little while. We've been prioritizing our lungs in these hazardous conditions and have been doing our best to limit the amount of time we're huffing and puffing around the farm. Thankfully the smoke has at least temporarily (sorta) lifted so we now can play catch up over the next little while.

Lots happening up at the farm - certain crops are coming to an end (kale, beans, broccoli, etc.) and we are now busy doing bed flips in preparation for fall crops. We've got things like cabbage, brussel sprout, and much more planned for the fall!

We're a little rushed in getting the newsletter out this week, so just a few tips & tricks with what we have in this week's Harvest Box.

One main staple that you're going to be getting this week is our namesake.. tomatoes!!! We have many different varieties right now: cherry tomatoes, monster heirlooms, and classic perfect round red tomatoes. We're intentionally giving everyone a lot this week, and while you could just slice the and eat them on everything we also want to include this delicious gazpacho recipe: https://www.bonappetit.com/recipe/summer-gazpacho

It's a fantastic way use up a lot of tomatoes and it comes highly recommended from our kitchen. One crucial tip to be sure to strain the blended tomato through a fine strainer - see image below!

One other useful thing we wanted to share with everyone is this link that outlines the optimal ways to store produce so that it stays fresh for as long as possible. We get that it's tricky to always use everything up before it starts to wilt & brown (it happens to us too!) but hopefully these tips will help all of us get more out of our veggies. Very useful - so be sure to bookmark this one!!!

Scratching my head as to if there's anything else to include tonight.. I don't think so.. we've got too much work to do.

Again thanks to everyone!! We will see you tomorrow if you place an order and otherwise you're welcome to pop by the Lake Country Farmer's Market Friday from 3 - 7!!
