It's a big week for getting stuff. This weekend I'll be tabling at the Denton Comic Arts Expo. It's a one day comic-con and I've been scrambling to have something to table with. I knew the After Death books wouldn't be in by this show's date, but I wanted to have something new on the table. So I finally put an order in for copies of SHOPsquatch and am crossing my fingers they arrive before their estimated arrival date of Monday, the 30th. I also ordered some new 5x7 prints and completely re-upped my bookmark inventory, both of which have already been delivered. There is also a small 8x10 print order that has shipped and the sticker sheets I create just for Patreon members should be en route as well. Will I get all of this in time for the show? I guess we will see.
As far as The After Death Book Two is concerned, I have officially submitted the files to the printer so they should be in production as we speak. Excited to get Book Two and to get both of these books back on my table and into the hands of backers and new readers!
This Denton show pretty much kicks off a month of shows and pop-ups. Right after this weekend, it's Weird Wednesday next week. Then ArtsGoggle on Oct. 19th followed by Denton's Day of the Dead Fest the following weekend. Then I'll have a couple weekends off until I work a local Holiday Market in November. So the name of the game right now is to get inventory numbers up!
Not much else to update you guys with this week. But I'll make up for it with some new comics. I've got another new After Death page this week AND the latest autobio comic. Let's goooo!
Autobio Comics
If I know myself at all, I'll eventually collect all of these into their own little book and make a collection of autobio comics. But I think I should be thinking of some sort of name for them besides just "autobio comics." Rachel Smith, the cartoonist behind IG account @flimsy_kitten has a series of simply black and white comics documenting her experiences as a first time mom. She named her comics "Nap Comix" because-in the beginning-they were comics she made while her kiddo was napping. She (and several others that do similar things) was part inspiration behind my own autobio comics. But, I'll need to name them something else eventually. "Autobio comics" don't really separate mine from anyone else's when it comes to an online search. Anyway, here's this week's comic.
What's Making Me Happy This Week
I finally get to enjoy my birthday present from my kiddos this weekend. My b-day was back in July and my kids bought me tickets for us all to go see Weezer in concert. Weezer's like the only band from my teen years that both my boys have also learned to love as I listened to their albums all throughout their childhood. This Sunday night I'll be taking in a Weezer show and wondering how hard it's going to be for this old man to get up early for work the next morning.
I discovered this great Substack this week that takes all of the guesswork out of comic Kickstarters. I'm always combing through Kickstarter looking at other comic projects and getting a feel for what people are putting out there. I only support something when I really feel called to, but it's always nice to window shop. This Substack combs through all of the comic Kickstarters that post (on a daily basis) and highlights the ones they think are worth a look making finding and potentially supporting these projects a little easier. The Substack is called The Comics Crowd and you can visit it here.
Also, coming from the department of Friends of Mine that make Cool Things-illustrator/artist/author Gracie Klumpp is posting her NaNoWriMo novel project in its entirety chapter by chapter every Friday over on her Substack. Not only that, but she's been posting preliminary illustrations as she explores how her story would translate if she were to adapt it into a graphic novel. For all of you process nerds out there, definitely check out her Substack here.
