DECEMBER The power of gratitude, a great podcast and learning to embrace failure.
These times are challenging for many of us. December brings both joy and stress most years, but this year feels heavier than normal. I hope you are able to find joy and love with your families in this season, especially those who are struggling. The world can feel like a dark place, but I pray for peace for us all. The Power of Gratitude.
Cultivating a mindset of gratitude has been proven to increase happiness and well-being, yet human nature makes it difficult to sustain. Like any emotion, gratitude can't be forced but we CAN cultivate our thoughts so that gratitude is more likely to arise. Practicing gratitude helps create a habit to focus on the positive in life.
We often dwell on the challenges we face – the headwinds against which we are constantly pushing – and neglect to acknowledge the tailwinds that propel us forward. Just as a runner may curse the headwind while running, but quickly forget it once the wind is at their back, we can easily overlook the positive forces in our lives.
Today, do a “gratitude audit” to identify the tailwinds in your life. Who are the people that hold you up and support you? What privileges and opportunities have been given to you? What experiences have you enjoyed? Even in difficult times, you can find things, big and small to be grateful for. Make it a habit. |
