From Steve's Drawing Table:
"Azay Le Rideau" Pen and Ink
It seems like this pen and ink has been popular with folks because of the detail and viewpoint. I was happy, years ago, when it won 2nd place in a competition in Albuquerque. It was a fun drawing to create, and I did it shortly after I took a photo in Azay Le Rideau, France, on my honeymoon, while exploring around the town one morning. It's likely, based on research, that our last name comes from this town and/or region. Even though this pen and ink has been part of my portfolio for years, something happened recently that I thought was interesting...
Last month, I was going through a box looking for an item, and came across a pack of photos given by my parents awhile back, that I hadn't looked through before. I skimmed through and found a picture of them when they had visited the same village a year and half earlier than I had. They are standing in the same alley, and at virtually the same angle as the picture I took...but 18 months earlier and completely random! So strange!
When I did this pen and ink, I used hatching, cross-hatching, stippling and spattering, using mostly a metal-nibbed pen.
