SUMMER NEWS

The last five months in Belize have been a whirlwind! Shortly after I arrived, a retired children's pastor from the US came for six weeks to help me with children's ministry training events. In six weeks we trained 250 people from 45 churches throughout the country. God's timing was evident in my and the children's pastor's arrival. I got to meet nearly all the pastors and Sunday School leaders in Belize and see every district in the country right away. It has been a great way to network and plan for the future of children's ministry in Belize.

While the situation with Covid has gotten better in many places, we are under a strict nationwide curfew and adhering to new gathering restrictions which limit how much we can do outside of 1-hour church services on Sundays. I am hopeful that Covid cases will lower in the coming weeks and allow more  in person ministry.

As the country begins to open more, I will be able to travel to churches that I connected with in training sessions to provide follow up training, resources, and help launch new ministries. Thanks to BGMC and some churches, I have assembled 30 KidMin starter kits filled with Bibles, curriculum, games, and supplies to get new children's ministries up and running. I was able to give one kit to a church last week who was in dire need of resources for their children's ministry. Maria (pictured right) was very happy to receive the supplies. I was very happy to spend some time with some kids from the church and make bread with some of the women (photos below).

In addition to KidMin training, I have been working on several ChildHope projects. ChildHope is an AG ministry throughout Latin America that builds schools connected to local churches and provides sponsorships for education, meals, uniforms, supplies, and gifts. I have taken on the evangelism and discipleship for our two ChildHope schools (curriculum for Bible classes and planning chapel services) and preparing for the new year of sponsorships. School started this week and will be done from home for the time being. This creates a difficult learning environment for most kids as they do not have "virtual learning" or a parent to teach them at home. I am currently producing weekly chapel videos to send to each family via text message to continue their Biblical education.

Prayer Requests:

  • Please pray that the start of the school year in our ChildHope schools goes smoothly.
  • For all in Belize effected by Covid, including our vice superintendent who is currently hospitalized and several pastors, as the virus spreads more than ever before.
  • For open doors for me to travel to churches and provide them with tools and resources.
  • My work account is quite low due to the unexpected move from Honduras to Belize. I hope to make up for these funds so that I can finish my term well.
